Woman of Willendorf // Hand-painted Watercolor Pendant

First discovered by modern humans in 1908 during an excavation in Austria, the Woman of Willendorf has become one of the most recognized Paleolithic art objects. She is carved out of a small piece of stone, and is estimated to be nearly 30,000 years old.  Long-held theories have called her a fertility totem, a mother goddess of a lost religion, an ideal representation of a well-nourished body in a time when the search for food was paramount. Although her original purpose is shrouded in mystery, she is a tiny window into a world we can hardly fathom.

This singular piece of wearable art contains an original watercolor illustration encased in high-quality, yellowing and scratch-resistant resin and set into a sophisticated stainless steel bezel pendant. It hangs from a delicate 18” stainless steel chain with a lobster clasp.
